What do you think of when you hear the word “boutique?” Do you suddenly envision a specialty store full of the shoes and handbags or perhaps a custom prop shop? Maybe you think of a high-end bakery or full service wedding consultant? What about when we add the word “photographer” into the mix? In today’s industry we hear the term “boutique photographer” practically everywhere we turn, tossed about by the experts as the ideal we should strive for. But when it comes down to the nitty gritty of what it really means to be a boutique photographer, it’s a little harder to define.
For me, I fell in love with concept of boutique photography from the moment that I started writing out my business plan. Countless hours were spent combing the internet, stalking every blog I could find, reading book after book, trying to find out how to implement the principles behind boutique photography. Somehow, these photographers had found out the secret to being boutique, but that information wasn’t easily accessible or was few and far between. The few resources that I did find only covered the basics steps and let me with more questions than answers.
When it came time to make the decision to pursue photography as my full-time career, I knew that I wanted to be a boutique business and somehow needed to discover how to get from point A to point B without driving myself crazy or losing my brand. That’s when the idea for “Being Boutique” was born. I knew that I wasn’t alone in my desire to create a boutique business or in my frustration on the lack of information, and wanted to create a place that would gather all the inspiration and resources into one place so that anyone could achieve their dream of becoming a boutique photographer.
So I invite you to join with me in this journey and together we will find out the secret to being boutique.
