A month or so ago, Jennifer of Jennifer Gulley Photography shared a sneak peek of her big office remodel and I was instantly “wowed!” She had such creative ideas and I knew that the place was going to be gorgeous so an interview + feature was definitely a must. Now the office has been unveiled and it is every bit as pretty as promised. Since the lack of natural light was a challenge, Jennifer used the decor and color scheme to create a light, airy space full of romantic elements and charming details.
BEING BOUTIQUE: What was your #1 goal when designing your office?
JENNIFER: When designing my office, I wanted to keep the room light and fresh and something that I can transition into other functional areas such as a corner to work out in, or eventually split it into a kids play area when I’m not in there working.
BEING BOUTIQUE: Where did most of your inspiration come from?
JENNIFER: I had an almost sea-like inspired design when I first started. I wanted a soft and airy feel to it because it was a dark, dark brown before when we first moved in so I wanted to transform the room into a really calming space. Now when I walk in and I have the chandelier dimmed and a candle burning, it’s completely calming!
BEING BOUTIQUE: Did you splurge on anything for your office?
JENNIFER: I didn’t splurge on anything really in the office because we just moved into our house and furnished the entire place … haha sooo I did this on a budget which was even better! I wanted to choose pieces that were less expensive because 1) we plan on moving again in the next 5 years and 2) I knew I would be switching the room up some eventually so I wanted pieces that would transition.
BEING BOUTIQUE: What do you love most about your office?
JENNIFER: The door! haha kidding .. but not. It’s so nice to actually have a closed off space where I can work without distraction. I also really love the gallery wall. I look at it all the time for inspiration and it’s the first thing I see when I walk in.
BEING BOUTIQUE: What would you do differently next time?
JENNIFER: Next time I’ll hire a painter..after trying to paint over a dark brown with a super light color, I thought my wrist was going to break – not to mention it took forever because I had to do 3-4 coats.
BEING BOUTIQUE: What advice do you have for other photographers designing their own home offices?
JENNIFER: Think about what makes you feel comfortable and puts you at ease. Surround yourself/your office with that and you’ll feel like you’re in your own little sanctuary!
And since Jennifer is really really awesome, she even included links to several of the pieces shown above!
