It’s Going to be Worth It

I’ve had the opportunity over the last couple of days to chat with some pretty amazing photographers… only, they don’t know just how amazing they really are! We’ve talked about how it’s so easy to point out how everyone else is succeeding but when we look at ourselves, we see only the failures and ways…

Jana L. - What a beautiful blog! Best business tip – Contracts and such are great, and a must in all businesses, but remember if you are running your own business, you can do things YOUR way – and that includes pleasing your clients. Customer Service is huge in winning clients over to be repeat customers again and again. :-)

January 17, 2013 - 2:34 pm

Megan | Being Boutique - Thanks, Jana! Can you tell I like white space?

That is a fantastic tip. Many times, we feel like we have to “stick to the rules” so much that we end up hurting rather than helping our business. Great share! I’ll be remembering that one ;)

Megan | Being Boutique - I would love for you to win too!

January 18, 2013 - 9:04 am

Megan | Being Boutique - Now that tip is filled with all sorts of warm fuzzies! Thanks for sharing!

January 18, 2013 - 9:11 am

Megan | Being Boutique - The great thing about the boutique business model is that it really is designed for small businesses! Clients and customers alike enjoy that personal relationship that only a small business allows you to have. It doesn’t take much to implement boutique business practices, all the packaging and props and whatnot are helpful, but the true magic happens within your business practices and client interaction.

January 18, 2013 - 9:12 am

Megan | Being Boutique - Definitely, Robyn! By all means… pave the way and lead by example! The world will love you even more for it.

January 18, 2013 - 9:14 am

Megan | Being Boutique - Got to love those extra touches. Big name franchise owned studios don’t give chocolate to their clients or stay late to accommodate a busy client’s schedule. That is what makes the difference.

January 18, 2013 - 9:51 am

Deb McElhany - Its a great way to make clients feel special!

January 18, 2013 - 3:15 pm

Elizabeth Dennis Campbell - I love when my clients hug me after they’ve finished unwrapping their order in their home. That pretty much sums up for me what being a boutique photographer is all about!

January 18, 2013 - 4:03 pm

Robyn Mumford - This is a fantastic giveaway! I love trying to set the standard in my little community of how the industry should be!

January 18, 2013 - 4:03 pm

Joanne Flood - Would love to win. My favourite thing about having a boutique business is being able to provide an amazing customer service experience to my clients. Something they cannot get from big name franchise owned studios.

January 18, 2013 - 4:50 pm

Christina Sylvester Skinner - What I like best about being an aspiring boutique photographer is the ability to create custom sessions instead of cookie cutter ones. I think those memories are priceless.

January 18, 2013 - 6:59 pm

Kristen Klein - I don’t have a boutique photography business, but am in the process of re-branding and that is my goal so I would LOVE to win!

January 18, 2013 - 7:55 pm

Charisma Howard - One of the best things I have heard from a client so far was actually today when I delivered her goodies. She said “my two year old doesn’t warm up and like anyone the way he just loves you!…I wish I could just go ahead and put you on retainer!” Well isn’t that just the best feeling ever!!
The comfortability that being a boutique business offers for making real connections between myself and my clients. I’m with them every step of the way and keep communications wide open and often. Even a client that has only met and had a session with me once so far has the sense of knowing me for years. It’s all about them and I make sure they know it! That’s what I love to bring to being a boutique business…and clients love it too! : )

Thanks for the giveaway! I’m looking forward to reading your posts!

January 18, 2013 - 8:22 pm

JellyBean Pictures - As a boutique photographer, everything must be premium. From your work, to your client interaction, to your packaging to your site. Happy to have another resource out there that caters to the boutique photography businesses!

January 21, 2013 - 9:19 am

Melissa Carr McLemore - The best advice I can give is don’t try to do everything as a photographer or business owner. Find something you love and fine tune it. You and your customers deserve it!

Tammy Jackson Waida - My favorite part about being a boutique photographer is being able to really get to know my clients and meet their needs. Thanks for the opportunity!

5 Ways to Stay Busy During the Slow Season

It happens every January without fail since the beginning of time (or so it seems)… the slow season. With the holidays over, people are coming home from vacation, starting back to work, the kids go back to school, credit card bills start arriving for all those last-minute gifts, and an extra three pounds show up…

Melissa Morgan Glidden - I have always been curious about the iPhone and iPad covers, but you’re right! If you’re going to try and push them, the weeks right after the holidays are probably the best time for it!

January 16, 2013 - 11:37 pm

Megan Peter - Exactly, Melissa Morgan Glidden! When polling people, I found that the majority purchased or were given their tablets and smartphones in the six weeks spanning from Black Friday to just after Christmas. So this is the perfect time to go back and make some $$$ off of those past sessions. And if you don’t want to have to deal with ordering the covers, you could just offer digital images that come pre-sized and perfectly designed for the covers already so all your clients have to do is hit upload and pay!
